NMJFC U9's Hornets V Chinley Whites - 7/1/24

Back to business for The Hornets who haven't played a game since December 10th due to the weather and some of our opposition having prior engagements. The irony was we ended up playing both Chinley teams this week.... In one game! The team & fixture we missed before Xmas appeared to merge with this weekend's opponents and initially it proved to be a tough test for us but we weathered the storm and after going a goal down the boys showed their character, belief & class and turned the game on its head.

We were missing Finley who is our rock and when The Hornets went behind, you could see the doubt in their minds and this is a credit to Finners who was unwell and couldn't play this weekend. Get well soon Finley.

Luckily, this squad of ours is full of big characters and they pulled together and continued playing the game the right way. The passing was on another level! We were one-down and the defenders were knocking the ball around the back like 'Der Kaizer' - on the weekend the magnificent Franz Beckenbauer passed away.

It was Frankie (Der Kaizer) who opportunistically hit one from the outside of his boot from way out and The Hornets were level. This started the comeback and you could see the boys grow in confidence with every goal they scored.

This Chinley team was proving to be a real test and as coaches, we couldn't embrace that challenge more.....  but some of the tackles were absolutely outrageous & although the ref tried her best to allow the game to flow...  it was simply impossible and The Hornets were now winning free-kicks in potentially goal-scoring opportunities. This proved to be the difference as Frankie, Rocket, Albie & Oliver L are all more than capable of hitting a dead-ball and Ollie M was in his element as he scored a perfect poaches hat-trick, directly from these passages of play.

In the midfield we have Albie & Oliver B and these boys represent 'Hard-Work'. It's like watching a couple of lads possessed, whilst they chase down every ball and turn it into attack. I'm sure they would both prefer more goals but the graft they put in is creating the goals for the team..... Outstanding! With Ollie M they simply wear down the opposition defence until they make a mistake.

Fenn was one again, absolutely switched on in goal and although he spent periods of the game not doing much....... when needed this boy never fails to deliver. Oliver L was on his game again this week. We asked him to sit back and manage the team from the back. He has never let us down and this weekend was no different. He was a leader and vocally organised his team in preparation for the next attack from Chinley.

Player of the Match was extremely tough to call. It could have been

A Hat-Trick from Ollie M ⚽⚽⚽

A Brace from our Set-Pierce Kings (Frank⚽⚽ & Ronan⚽⚽)

Outstanding goal from Albie⚽ and possibly his best performance this season.

Oliver B managed the entire game from midfield. Setting up the attacks.

Oliver L stepping up and bossing the defence

Fenn and his super-saves

After a coaches chat - It went to Frankie Der Kaizer🏆🇩🇪
